Smart Home Wiring

Make your New York home work the way you live — smart switches, automated lighting, thermostats, cameras and networked wiring, all installed cleanly and built to be future-ready by licensed Precision Power electricians.

What Smart Home Wiring Covers

A Home That Responds — Wired the Right Way

Smart home technology is only as reliable as the wiring behind it. A switch that controls a scene, a thermostat that learns your schedule, a camera that never drops its feed — each one depends on the right cabling, a steady network and connections done to code. Stick-on gadgets and plug-in hubs can only go so far; the homes that feel genuinely seamless are the ones wired with intention from the wall out.

Precision Power installs and upgrades the wiring that makes automation work: smart switches, dimmers and outlets in place of tired old toggles, automated and scene-based lighting, learning thermostats and sensors, security cameras and video doorbells, structured low-voltage and network cabling, and smart panels with energy monitoring. We plan it around the devices you actually want, run it neatly inside the walls where we can, and set everything up so it works on day one — and for the upgrades you haven't thought of yet.

What We Install

Smart Upgrades We Install

From a single smart switch to a fully networked, automated home — here's what we wire and set up across New York.

Smart Switches & Dimmers

We replace ordinary switches and outlets with smart, app- and voice-controlled versions — including dimmers and smart plugs — so any light or device can be scheduled, grouped or controlled from your phone.

Automated Lighting & Scenes

Lighting that follows your day — wake-up, movie night, away mode — with scenes, schedules and motion triggers wired so a single tap or routine sets the whole room.

Smart Thermostats

We install learning and programmable smart thermostats and the C-wire many of them need, so heating and cooling adjust automatically and you can control comfort from anywhere.

Cameras, Doorbells & Security

Wired and Wi-Fi security cameras, video doorbells, motion sensors and the power and network runs behind them — placed for real coverage and a feed that stays online.

Structured & Networked Wiring

In-wall data, coax and low-voltage cabling run back to a central point — the structured backbone that gives every room hard-wired internet, AV and smart-device connectivity.

Smart Panels & Energy Monitoring

Smart electrical panels and circuit-level monitoring that show what your home is using in real time, with app control and automation built into the panel itself.

Two Ways In

Retrofit or New Wiring?

Most homes can go smart without opening walls. A renovation or whole-home build opens up more — here's how the paths compare.

Our Approach

Reliable, Compatible & Clean

A smart home that frustrates you isn't smart. The difference between technology you love and technology you fight with is almost always the install — so we wire for reliability and compatibility first, and make it look like it was always meant to be there.

Works with the major ecosystems

We plan installs to work with the major smart-home ecosystems and assistants so your devices live under control you already use, rather than locking you into one box. We talk through what you have and what you want before we pick anything, and we won't promise a specific brand will do something it can't.

The neutral-wire reality

Many smart switches need a neutral wire in the box to power their electronics, and older NYC homes often don't have one at the switch. We check for it up front and, where it's missing, run the wiring or recommend a switch designed to work without one — so nothing flickers, buzzes or fails to respond.

Networking that doesn't drop

Automation falls apart when the network does. We plan coverage and run hard-wired connections where it matters most, so cameras keep streaming and devices stay responsive instead of dropping off the moment the house gets busy.

Neat runs and proper permits

In-wall runs are kept tidy and out of sight, line-voltage work is done to code, and where the job requires a permit we file it. You get a clean finish and an install that holds up.

Honest Pricing

What Drives the Cost of Smart Home Wiring

We quote after we understand your home and your goals. These are the factors that move the number up or down.

Number of Devices

A few smart switches is a different job than wiring every room. The count of switches, outlets, cameras, thermostats and sensors is the biggest driver.

Retrofit vs. In-Wall Wiring

Swapping devices into existing wiring is quicker than running new in-wall structured cable, which involves more labor and finishing.

Networking & Coverage

The size of the home and how much hard-wired or extended coverage it needs affects the network runs and access points required.

Cameras & Security

The number and placement of cameras and video doorbells — and whether they're wired or wireless — changes the power and data runs involved.

Smart Panel & Monitoring

Adding a smart panel or circuit-level energy monitoring is a larger upgrade than device-level controls and is priced accordingly.

Integration Complexity

Tying lighting, climate, security and AV into one unified system with custom scenes takes more setup than standalone devices.

The honest version: there's no flat price for smart home wiring — a handful of smart switches and a fully automated, networked home are very different jobs. That's why we don't quote sight-unseen. We walk your home, map it to the devices and control you want, and give you a clear price before any work begins.

Our Process

How a Smart Wiring Project Works

From first conversation to a system you can actually use — clear and clean at every step.

1

Plan & Design

We talk through how you want your home to work, check your wiring and network, and design a setup around the devices and ecosystem you want.

2

Quote

You get a clear, itemized quote — devices, wiring and setup all spelled out — with no surprises before any work starts.

3

Install & Configure

We install switches, devices, cameras and any in-wall wiring cleanly, then configure scenes, schedules and app control.

4

Test & Demo

We test every device on the network and walk you through it, so you leave knowing exactly how your smart home works.

Questions

Smart Home Wiring FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most.

Can I add smart wiring to an existing home?
Yes. Most homes go smart as a retrofit — we swap in smart switches, outlets, thermostats and devices that work with your existing wiring, usually without opening walls. Where you want hard-wired cameras or structured cabling, we run new wiring as neatly as possible. We'll tell you what your home can take on as a retrofit versus what's better done during a renovation.
Do smart switches need a neutral wire?
Many do. Smart switches draw a small amount of constant power to run their electronics, and that often requires a neutral wire in the switch box — which older NYC homes don't always have. We check before we install. If the neutral is missing, we either run the wiring to provide one or recommend a switch designed to work without a neutral, so it operates reliably.
Does it work with Alexa, Google and Apple Home?
We plan installs to work with the major smart-home ecosystems and voice assistants, so your devices live under the control you already use. We'll talk through what you have and what you want before choosing equipment, and we match the devices to your ecosystem rather than locking you into one platform.
Can you install security cameras and video doorbells?
Yes. We install wired and Wi-Fi security cameras, video doorbells and motion sensors, including the power and network runs behind them. We place them for real coverage, make sure they have a stable connection, and set up the app so you can view and get alerts from anywhere.
What is structured / networked wiring?
It's the in-wall low-voltage backbone of a smart home — data, coax and similar cabling run from each room back to one central point. It gives every room hard-wired internet, AV and smart-device connections that don't depend on Wi-Fi alone, which is what keeps cameras streaming and devices responsive as you add more of them.
Is it better to wire during a renovation?
If you're already renovating, it's the best time. Open walls let us run structured and in-wall wiring cleanly and future-proof the home for devices you haven't bought yet — without the patching a retrofit can involve. If you're not renovating, a retrofit still gets you most smart features without the disruption.
Do you configure and set everything up?
Yes. We don't just hang the hardware — we configure the devices, set up scenes and schedules, connect everything to your app and ecosystem, test it on the network, and walk you through how it all works before we leave, so you're not left with a box of gadgets to figure out.
How long does it take?
It depends on scope. A handful of smart switches and a thermostat is often a single visit, while in-wall structured wiring, multiple cameras and whole-home automation take longer and may span several days. We give you a realistic timeline with your quote so you know what to expect.
